I love laptops, but a desktop changed my life!

Desktop PC

My new monster desktop.

Look inside my new monster of a machine - 2 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors, 16 GB of RAM, over 2 terrabytes of HD space, hooked up to 23" and 27" monitors. I used to be a laptop girl (Macbook ro to be precise), I still am I suppose, and it was great when life was all fun and games, but as soon as all the fun started secretly transforming into work (still fun, but work none-the-less - that transition from doing it for fun, to having it evolve into your "job" is a toughie, and being your own boss on top of it!).

So old scenario; laptop went with me everywhere, emails, submissions to my site, things to constantly tweak in photoshop, posts to write, ideas to design, and so much more. It was just never ending, I loved it, but I couldn't seem to stop myself, there was always more to do! And that means laptop went with me on vacation, to my co-founder's house, to late night working in bed before passing out, to working on it first thing in the morning. I kid you not when I say it's hard not to be working 24/7 with a laptop.

So then, I start maxing out my ram because I want to play with more video editing and I want more giant monitors, etc etc - so impulse sends me to the apple store one sunday in the midst of the iPhone lineups and I picked up a MacPro, then hit up the internet and filled it with goodies. And strangely, stress levels have been dropping, I've finally been able to walk away mentally a bit more from the "work" side of running a network of sites and side projects.

Basically I guess the moral of my rant is... Laptops. Love em. But they are hard to leave behind. Sometimes for us commitment-phobes, it's not a bad thing to settle down with a nice hefty Desktop and proper desk set up - it's surprisingly freeing, ironically, because it CAN'T follow you! So work-at-home-workaholics, if you're a laptop junkie like me, try adding a desktop to the mix, it might surprise you!
