Planning a road trip? You can find out how much you'll have to spend on gas by visiting Cost 2 Drive. This sweet and simple site asks for your starting and ending points (you can enter either the town or zip code), and the type of car you'll be driving.

I sometimes drive from my home in Tarzana, CA to Sebastapol, CA. Cost 2 Drive tells me that the 422 mile trip will take 6 hours and 33 minutes, and consume 15 gallons of fuel at a cost of $40.34. That's if I drive my 2008 Ford Escape 2WD Hybrid. If I take my 2001 New Beetle, it'll run me just $28.69.

It's fun to use Cost 2 Drive to see how much it costs to drive different kinds of cars. If I took my brother-in-law's Audi S Quattro Series (with a gas-gulping 10-cylinder engine) I'd burn 24 gallons of gas and rack up a fuel bill of $95.05. A Prius barely beats my VW at $28.06.

If you really want to stretch your gasoline dollar, use Cost 2 Drive in conjunction with AAA's gas price finder to locate the cheapest gas in any town.
