Clearing Your Cache

Advanced Computing Help
If you have a broadband (very fast) connection, the time you save using a cache might be pretty small. The idea of a Web cache goes back to the days not so long ago when most of us used dial-up access to the Internet. At 56 Kbps (dial-up/modem speed) or slower, shaving off some time to get a few graphics files was significant. Dial-up is still around today, and in these cases it's still a factor, but to most of us, the time-saving benefits of a browser cache are negligible
Cache contents can interfere with Web viewing.
Consider the case where a page has been updated since you last loaded it.Get the Best Battery Life from Your Mobile Computer
Mobile Computing
Ah, the laptop computer-the ultimate in digital enjoyment where you can connect, play, and work, wherever, whenever. But if you lose battery power and can't plug in on the go, your laptop just became an oversized coaster.
Laptop technologies have really come a long way.
With advances in processor architecture and mobile-optimized technologies and software, you can experience a near-desktop experience for playing games, listening to and downloading music and surfing the Internet, all without being leashed to the nearest outlet.OK, you've come a long way. Now just a little further.
Before You Rush Out to Buy: Computer-Shopping Q&A
Before you Buy a Computer
This section lists some general questions and answers. Hopefully, the one question you want to ask about buying a computer is among the following. The margins on computers are so low today that the dealer is probably giving you the best price it can muster. If you can find something a lot cheaper, it's probably refurbished or sold without any support. Remember, support is more important than price, especially for your first purchase. An exception to this rule is when you go shopping on the Internet.
Use Your Digital Photos as Your Screen Saver
Online Lifestyle
Taking snapshots with my digital camera is no problem. Snap-snap, all the time. Getting the photos from my camera to my computer-I can do that, too. Problem is, there they often stay, languishing in my Pictures folder. I always mean to upload them to a photo sharing site (I use Flickr, but Shutterfly is popular with my family), but I often get sidetracked before finishing the job. My stopgap solution? Thanks to a Parent Hacks reader tip, I now point my computer's screen saver at my Pictures folder so we get an ongoing slide show whenever the computer's idle.

Fun with Flickr
Online Lifestyle
It's no doubt that I can get lost on Flickr just moving from one photo to the next. It's no wonder that most of us have started to rely on Flickr to be not only a medium for sharing projects or inspiration, it's become a way for all of us to share our slices of daily life. Here's a roundup of some great tools that can tie in with your Flickr photos to make the most out of your pictures!
New to Flickr now is video where pro account members can upload video with a 90 second time limit.
